James W. Fogal, CFP®, ChFC, CLU, AEP

Financial Planner

James is President of Fogal Financial Group and has 20 years of experience providing financial services to individuals and families. He established Fogal Financial Group in 2004. In 2005, he affiliated with Avantax Investment ServicesSM to offer financial planning and asset management. Today, his efforts are spent in helping individuals establish, plan, and reach goals and make key life decisions all while enjoying close personal relationships with clients. He works with individuals, families, business owners, and retirees. James strives to meet each client’s personal needs while focusing on high-quality service combined with complete confidentiality.

James has a bachelor of arts degree from Asbury University, a master of arts degree from Indiana University and is taking graduate courses in education at Auburn University.  He is a graduate of the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William and Mary.  He studied financial planning at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and has been a Certified Financial Planner™ professional since 2004.  Since then, he earned the following professional designations to enhance his ability to serve clients and all have been kept current through continuing education: Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Accredited Estate Planner (AEP), and Accredited Tax Advisor (ATA).

James taught financial planning classes for several years at Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. He also founded the East Alabama Estate Planning Council – having served as President of the Board for several years.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Columbus (GA) Estate Planning Council, and is currently a member of the Montgomery Estate Planning Council.  He is also an active member of the Financial Planning Association and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.

James is married to Dannell Fogal, a preschool teacher in Auburn. They have two sons, Connor and Logan. He loves to spend his free time with his family, volunteering with several regional charities and active in his local church. Because James is a strong believer in giving back to his community, he is involved in and supports several charities such as the Civil Air Patrol and Boy Scouts of America. James is a Wood Badge trained leader of Boy Scouts. As a former paramedic, James continues teaching CPR, first aid, wilderness advanced first aid, and the advanced wilderness life support course. He is pursuing a fellowship with the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
